These photos were taken on my trip to the Philippines, February 5-15, 2005. All photos were taken with the Nikon D70 camera- kit lens or 80-400mm VR lens. Click on the first thumbnail to guide you through all the photos, or just click on individual photos.

Banaue & Batad Rice Terraces: We walked through the rice paddies for days. It was the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. Some of these villages have no access to roads and you have to walk for hours over the mountains to get there. The rice is harvested just once a year, and no chemical fertilizer is used- just the weeds from the walls of the paddies are used as a natural fertilizer.

Around Banaue: The older Ifugao people often dress in their traditional clothing and sit around the various rice terrace view points. We walked through many small villages and saw kids playing with eachother and helping their parents.

Sagada: In this very relaxed town, we hiked to some caves and saw hanging coffins- this is what the town is most famous for, but just the cool fresh air alone made it worth it.

Baguio: We walked all around this nice university town, but had the most interesting time at the 4sq-km market. People there were very friendly, and sometimes even asked to have their photo taken.

Vigan: In this Spanish colonial town, we enjoyed a long carriage ride through town. We went to many museums and cathedrals.

Manila: Despite its reputation as a dirty and frustrating city, I enjoyed Manila.  The people were friendly, and we found enough to do for the three nights we stayed there.
