Bako National Park

This was by far my favorite park we visited. It is not as big as Taman Negara, but it seems to have so much more diversity in a smaller area. The hiking here was excellent, all hikes start near the ocean where the beautiful mangroves are, and go through all different kinds of flora. And, not many people seem to visit here- there are so few people that I swear you could hike naked if you wanted to!

These are the very photogenic mangroves:

Most of the hikes start by going through humid and dense hilly jungle.

And this hike brought us to our own private beach!

This other hike came out of the jungle and had easy walking through open dried river beds and paths.

And we came to a small waterfall area. It was so nice swimming in freshwater for a change. The pool I was in was very scary because the fish wouldn't stop nipping, so we moved to other pools that had no fish. There was no one there all day!

Meat-eating plants!! We saw lots of different kinds of Pitcher plants at Bako.

And the park had the best assortment of animals I have seen so far. There were wild pigs, silver-leaf monkeys, proboscis monkeys, and macaques. We got to see all of them, but I was only able to get pictures of the macaques, because they never seem to mind when humans are around.
Notice the cute little baby is breastfeeding. ouch!

And our visit would not be complete without a nice sunset. This was one of the nicest I've seen.
