Brunei- Bandar Seri Begawan

Not many asia backpackers make it to Brunei because there's not much to offer and it's an expensive place, but we had a few reasons to go and weren't disappointed with what we saw.

Since Brunei is such a rich country, it has some excellent Mosques.
This is the beautiful Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

This is the largest mosque in the country, the Jame'Asr Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque.

We also went to the crazy Jerudong Park Playground. It was a present to the country from the sultan of Brunei, otherwise known as Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam - to give his full name and title, or His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

Welcome to suburbia on stilts!! Over 30,000 people live in the Kampung Ayer (Water Village).
This is the new section

And the old section

These water villages burn easily, here's where a big fire was a few years ago, which is why they built the new water village.

And here's one of the many schools on water.
