Phnom Penh
The National Palace. It was the first new 'grand' thing we saw in our travels. I can't understand how these third world countries are filled with buildings and monuments like this. These buildings are more impressive than much of what we have in north america.

And The National Museum:

Wat Phnom:

The Big Tourist on the little riverside! This was also a very nice place in Phnom Penh. The locals can buy cute little birds, make a wish, and let them fly away. It was so cute!

And here's where the Mekong River and the Tonle Sap meet:

There is still a lot of evidence of horrible things that the Khmer Rouge did about 20 years ago in Cambodia. We took scary motorbike transport out of town to the Killing Fields, where tens of thousands of Cambodians were tortured and killed, and we also visited the Tuol Sleng museum, an old high school that was turned into a prison where many were tortured and killed.

The monument at the Killing Fields, which contains more than 8000 skulls.

The Tuol Sleng prison camp.
