Ubud
I loved Ubud! It has great culture, food, people, and some excellent local art- I even took a batik course while I was there.
This was at a Hindu ceremony that we just showed up at. I don't think they really wanted us there, but I'm glad we went.

Keri and I even dressed according to the customs: a sarong with a sash.

Even though most Indonesians are Muslims, Bali is populated mostly with Hindus. They seem to be much different from the Hindus in Malaysia. One of the differences is that they put these nice little homemade 'offerings' everywhere...
...Outside the market...

...On my doorstep at my homestay (this was a cute simple offering)...

...At little shrines along the street...

...On top of bank machines...

...Random places along the streets...

...This one was at a shop in the airport...

...And this poor little live offering was at the ceremony that we went to. I was sad, but then I read in my guidebook that the people come back the next day and take their offerings back. Though I don't know what they do after that.

We took our bikes and rode to the outskirts of Ubud. We saw rice paddy fields and temples along the way.

I went to quite a few temples in the outskirts of Ubud. This one was a temple in a beautiful rice paddy field, called Yeh Pulu Pura.

And this one was the popular Gua Gajah (Elephant Caves Temple)
