Baguashan Mountain
September 18, 2004
This beautiful area is just a 15 minute scooter ride away from our apartment. It is a mountain park that is home to a 22m high Great Buddha Statue made of 272,000kg of concrete. The buddha has just been restored, and looks better than ever.

The Buddha is near the top of the 97m elevation mountain. There are paths, pagodas, ponds, and a temple for all the tourists to enjoy.

Chess anyone?

The large temple is behind the statue.

And inside one of the floors:

We were there as the sun was setting across the huge courtyard.

Behind the temple is a pond with a many-turns bridge. The reason for the bridge is to force people to slow down- take time to smell the roses. I think it's a good idea.

I can't believe how lucky we were to have a blue sky. It was amazingly clear; we had good views of Changhua, Taichung, and even the ocean.

The sunset was great too...
